Most graduates of Brown College's court reporting
program go on to become
freelance reporters,
who primarily are hired by attorneys to report
depositions (examinations under oath before trial).
Others work as
official (courtroom) reporters.
Either way, they serve
as "the guardians of the record."
Freelance reporters
also take down meetings, conferences, and training
sessions and broadcast them via computers to distant
parties. This is the exciting new field of
cyber-conferencing.
