The following frequently asked questions are presented to offer efficient service, but please contact us so that we may personally respond to your needs.

Q: How many students attend Brown College?
A: Approximately 200 students are enrolled in our programs.

Q: Where is Brown College located and how many campuses do you have?
A:  Brown College is located in south Buckhead at Peachtree and 25th street; a crossroads for trendy shops and restaurants. This is our only location.

Q. When does the next quarter begin?
A. Brown College is on the quarter system and we have four quarters in the academic year: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.

Q: What is the class schedule for full-time and part-time students?
A: Full-time students attend classes four days each week, Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  Part-time students attend three nights each week, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. We do not have Friday classes but students are welcomed to come in and use the computer and practice labs.

Q: Do I receive a certificate or degree when I complete my program?
A:  You may choose. We offer both a certificate and an associate degree in Court Reporting & Medical Transcription. The CART/Captioning program offers the associate degree.

Q: Is a degree required to work in these fields and how much longer is it to complete the associate vs. certificate?
A. The associate degree is viewed by many students as mark of accomplishment, but a degree is not required in order to be successful in these fields. The only difference in the associate degree curriculum as compared to the certificate program for Court Reporting is the addition of 5 general education requirements (math, psychology, geography, ecology, and history).  This will only extend the certificate program by one quarter, if at all. The associate degree for MT will take another 4 quarters to complete.

Q: Do you assist with career placement?
A: Yes!  The career services coordinator will assist each individual with his/her career search.  As a result of our reputation, our graduates are in high demand and we have a constant stream of employment opportunities, which we regularly post on our career boards.

Q: How much do your programs cost?
A: Tuition costs per quarter are as follows:

Court Reporting & CART/Captioning Students
Fulltime/Day Students:                  $2,900.00
Part time/Night Students:              $1,450.00

Medical Transcription

Q: Do you offer classes online?
A: Yes. We offer online classes for our Court Reporting & CART/Captioning programs.  Some restrictions apply. Please contact the admission office to find out if you qualify.

Q: Will you accept my credits from another college?
A: The Director of Education will review your transcript and credit may be given for relevant coursework completed within the last eight years. An official transcript from an accredited institution is required and should be mailed directly to our admissions office.  Transfer students are required to complete their last 28 credits with us in order to be considered a graduate of Brown College of Court Reporting & Medical Transcription.

Q: What salary level can I anticipate earning upon completion of your programs?
A: According to the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA), court reporters and captioners earn an average of $60,000 per year.  Salary.com reports that in January of 2005, 50% of medical transcriptionists in Georgia were making at least $32,000.
